Green Action, Never Ceasing: Spring YES Mentor Orientation Recap

· YES Program

On March 8th, the Women’s Day, the so-called Goddess Festival, the new session of Shanghai Roots & Shoots "Youth for Environmental Sustainability (YES)” Mentor Orientation was held as scheduled. After an simple ice-breaking game and an brief introduction to the organization, the mentor candidates first learned the basics of effective communication through an interactive game. This was followed by an experience with the "Zero Waste" YES Sample Class, which not only gave the participants an initial understanding but also deepened their comprehension of education for sustainable development.

The afternoon session shifted the focus to practical skills. An experienced YES Mentor shared her insights on education, after which participants were guided to define their roles as mentors and introduced to concrete teaching techniques. Following a second demo class on "Dental Care," the prospective mentors took the stage themselves. They successfully delivered four mock lessons—"Double Five," "Roots & Shoots Bag," "Trees for Bees," and "Future World"—effectively putting theory into practice.
