Volunteer with Us
Over the years, Shanghai Roots & Shoots has cultivated a network of volunteers through various activities and projects. Driven by social responsibility, these volunteers contribute their time, skills, and passion to environmental protection and social development. In recent years, over 240 new volunteers have been added annually, with an average of more than 220 volunteers participating in various charity events, contributing over 3,500 hours of service each year. Volunteers are involved in activities focusing on "Caring for the Environment, Animals, Community". They also bring sustainable education to schools, promote sustainable lifestyles, and even travel far away to plant trees. Shanghai Roots & Shoots prioritizes volunteer development and management in our work. Volunteers are at the very cornerstone of the work that we do and the impact that we have made.

How to become a volunteer?
The Annual Gathering of Roots & Shoots Groups and Volunteers
Roots & Shoots Day is an annual gathering of the Roots & Shoots school groups and young volunteers, which lasted for more than 20 years. Through its rich and lively content and innovative interactive format, Roots & Shoots Day allows more and more
Every year, young volunteers in Shanghai gather to showcase their achievements. The Roots & Shoots platform empowers more young volunteers to cultivate and develop their own charity programs and activities. They also receive the latest charity news, have the opportunity to connect with the professionals, and collaborate and exchange ideas with companies and organizations across sectors. This allows the seeds of environmental protection to flourish and take root in everyone's hearts.
Voluneer to Make A Change for the Future
Twenty-five years have passed like a song, a journey of shared roots and dreams, a journey of companionship. From our humble beginnings to the thriving nonprofit organization we are today, our achievements belong to every individual and organization that has helped Shanghai Roots & Shoots. This cannot be done without the support of government departments, corporate partners, and school teachers, and especially from the passionate and dedicated volunteers! Every bit of support and dedication from everyone is etched in our shared memories, and we sincerely say "thank you"!
For every exciting anniversary, we organize volunteer parties, bringing together all the friends to share experiences and celebrate a special anniversary!

The goal is to let young people influence young people, young people lead young people, and young people change young people. It provides a broader platform for young volunteers to explore their potential, strengthen their sense of social responsibility, and enhance their motivation. From 2010 to 2015, the Youth Leadership Counsil trained over 40 outstanding young volunteer leaders, who play an indispensable role in Roots & Shoots' various projects and activities.

When jogging, the movement of picking litter is similar to squatting, so the muscles of legs and core muscles can get great exercise. A group of young adults came to Dongtan to experience the most fashionable sport in Shanghai — Plogging, to reduce the creation of garbage and repel the “white evil” in the ocean.
