On the occasion of the National Ecological Day 2026, themed on "Fostering the Green Background for Chinese‑path Modernization", Shanghai Roots & Shoots held a community study tour titled *Guard the Blue, Listen to the Call of Polar Regions* at Changzhi No.2 Community, Huayang Road Sub‑district, Changning District on August 14, with 15 family groups taking part in the event.
In the morning, an ocean‑themed science session was delivered. Through lectures on water cycle and bead‑stringing handicraft, participants learned the essential role of oceans in global water circulation. Lecturers also introduced marine resources and hazards brought by micro‑plastic pollution, before leading on to polar ecology.
In the afternoon, the group visited the Polar Science Popularization Museum. Mr. Wang Luo, a scientist with field research experience in the Arctic, gave an on‑site sharing. With specimens, expedition footage and models, he illustrated polar research work, how vulnerable polar organisms are to temperature rise, and the close ecological linkage among oceans, polar zones and global climate. The workshop concluded with a model‑building session, where young participants assembled the *Xuelong‑2* research vessel and Qinling Station models, gaining first‑hand understanding of the fearless spirit of polar researchers.
Combining science education, face‑to‑face dialogue with scientists and hands‑on practice, this study tour encouraged teenagers to translate awareness into action. It planted seeds of science advocacy, reverence for nature and ecological protection among youngsters, and helped embed environmental‑protection ideas into daily life.
